Mardi Gras celebrations abound as parades and festivities fill Downtown on Mardi Gras Day. Families are invited to gather and enjoy a full day of activities in Parc Sans Souci.

People of all ages are challenged to test their creativity and Mardi Gras spirit during the annual King's Court Costume Contest set for 9 a.m. This family-oriented contest, welcomes individuals, couples and groups. Pre-registration is not required. Celebrity judges present special Mardi Gras medallions and plaques for best theme, most original, most comical, best family group, best adult group and best adult couple. This year's theme is "Fables of Fire and Flame".

The Basile Mardi Gras Association returns to Vermilionville. The run starts at 11 am. After the run, gumbo will be available for purchase in the PC. The Lafayette Rhythm Devils take the stage at 1 pm. Before the band starts, step into the cooking school for a king cake lesson. Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for students. Memberships honored.

The Great Gator Race is held each March at Bouligny Plaza in downtown New Iberia, LA. At 12 noon 5000 plastic gators race down the Bayou Teche. Sponsor some racing gators and you may be a winner of some of our fabulous prizes. Enjoy some good food, good music and great family fun. And by supporting SMHA, you're a winner no matter where your racing gators wind up at the end of the race!
